How to edit planet scenario files

Hello all, long time Sins1 player.  It was easy to edit starting resources for planets/maps in Sins1, now it seems a bit more difficult.  I understand how to unpack the scenario files.  

But

A)How can I change starting resources for the player

B)How do I repack the files into an archive(scenario file)?  Which 7Zip settings is it? 

Im sorry, I'm new to modding, I used to just edit the files with notepad, now the process is a bit more complex. 

What I'm after is giving the player (me - noob) more starting resources, then eventually start increasing the AI difficulty.
