No sound after PC screensaver kicks on

My sound is working great until I walk away from a paused running game.  My monitor goes into sleep mode after 5 minutes.  I come back and start playing again but now the game is silent.  If I quite the game and re-start it, the sound is back.  

Any solutions to this?
