Diplomacy not as fun in Sins 2

Have to be honest, diplomacy is more fun in Sins 1 than 2, in Sins 2 it's really just a case of sending the AI resources until they get a positive score? Unless I'm missing something about it. Sending peace envoys, offering them resources to undertake missions was better, and it was disappointing that was not present in Sins 2. Hopefully it's on the road map for the future.
